WHERE IS THE ARK OF THE COVENANT?

THE ARK OF THE COVENANT was made by Moses in the Sinai desert after the Israelites left Egypt. For 1000 years, it was the focus of Israel’s faith. They carried it through the desert. Then it rested in Shiloh. Then the Philistines captured it. It returned to Israel and stayed in various temporary locations. But David sought it out. He built a tent for it on Mount Zion. Finally, it was brought into the Holy of Holies in the temple that Solomon built. It went out to war with the Israelites, and brought them victory in battle. Then, suddenly and silently, in the time of good King Josiah, it disappeared.

Where did it go? Some say the Babylonians captured it. Others claim the Ethiopians took it. But the evidence supports neither view. Others think it just got lost and destroyed.

But it’s neither captured nor lost nor destroyed. It’s just well hidden. And there are people (including myself) who know exactly where it is. But don’t think you’ll be able to organize a dig and go and pick it up any time soon. No-one will get their hands on it until a very select few decide that it’s time to bring it out of its long concealment. But what will the holy Ark’s reappearing mean for the world?
