THE PSALMS ALBUM
The Psalms Album appeared in 1996. Its story began in the early 1990s in Edinburgh. John Bell invited me to Carberry Towers to join the Church of Scotland’s committee for remetricizing the Psalms. When I saw that the committee wouldn’t publish the best of my work, I published my own settings of the Psalms in folk-rock style. St Catherine’s-Argyle Church, where I was director of music, kindly helped support it. We produced a book of Piano-Vocal & SATB arrangements with live recordings on CD and cassette tape. Eight of the songs were by myself and four were by Sandy Nicholson. The cover artwork was by Lindsay Duff.
